VCW takes great pride as it has been 28 long years since the visionary Founder, late Thiru. A.M. Paramasivanandam established this prestigious institution.

Paying my humble pranams to the presiding deities Paramananda Vinayagar and Sivananda Vinayagar, I take the privilege of presenting the 28th Annual Report of this esteemed institution of higher learning.

 

STUDENT COUNCIL INVESTITURE

The Investiture ceremony of the Student Council of the college was held on 22nd July 2015. Maj. Dr. M. Venkatramanan, Principal and Head, Department of Economics, D.G. Vaishnav College and Member, Syndicate, University of Madras administered the oath of office to the newly elected 59 Council members. Ms. V. Pavitra of III B.com Corporate Secretaryship took charge as the President of the Student Council.

 

FRESHERS’ TALENT SEARCH – PRATHIBHA

‘Prathibha 2015’ the Fresher’s Talent Search was conducted on 29.8.2015 as an ice breaking event to make the young learners more comfortable in the new environment as members of VCW. As a part of the celebration, on-stage and off-stage events were conducted. Many television and cine personalities judged the days’ events.
 

PATRIOTIC SENTIMENTS

Hailing from an age old tradition and value imbibed country we never fail in showing our solidarity towards the Motherland. Independence Day on August 15th and Republic Day on January 26th were celebrated with patriotic fervour and with true spirit of the nationalism.
 

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE.

I am proud to inform that our students brought laurels to the college in the form of 32 top ten university ranks both at UG and PG levels and 531 ranks between the 11 to 50 ranks. I take this opportunity to congratulate all those students and appreciate the praiseworthy efforts of all the staff members who meticulously worked hard and motivated the students in achieving academic excellence.
 

COLLEGE CELEBRATIONS

Deep rooted in tradition and culture, our college pays extreme importance to the festivities and values of various regions. Onam festival was celebrated in colourful way with enthusiasm and glow. Diwali, the festival of lights, was celebrated by lighting hundreds of lamps to spread sparks of goodness and prosperity all around. Pongal being the harvest festival and thanks giving to the Sun God, was celebrated with pomp and glory.
 

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

As a part of the various flood relief measures that the college has undertaken, the management generously contributed Rs 300000/- to the Government Flood Relief Fund. Students and staff visited Thiruverkadu and Thirunindravur on 30.12.2015 and distributed stationery, provisions and clothes to about 250 people.
The student volunteers participated in the mega two day camp “Healthy Chennai 2016” held on 26.12.2015 at KRM Public School Perambur. They helped in organising blood and stem cell donation camp. The college donated 130 kgs of rice and other provisions.
As a part of the rehabilitation post Chennai floods, the staff and students enthusiastically participated in the camp conducted by the Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Government of Tamil Nadu on 17th December 2015.
As per the instructions of Higher Education Government of Tamilnadu and the University of Madras, the college organized a camp to meet the grievances of all the students who had lost their Degree Certificates in the recent floods.
Understanding the social responsibility towards the nation, the college organised a camp in association with Bharat Electronics Ltd on 15th February 2016 to include the names of staff, students and parents who were not enrolled earlier in the National Population Register and thus helped in obtaining Adhaar Card.
The college organised a programme on 11.3.2016 to create awareness amongst youngsters above 18 years to exercise their franchising rights.

DEPARTMENT OF TAMIL

The Department conducted an oratorical competition on 14th September 2015 under the banner of Professor A.M. Paramasivanandam’s Council” and an essay writing competition on 18th September 2015. Pattammal Paatu Potti was conducted on 8th January 2016.
 

DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH

The department published research articles at National and International journals bearing ISSN and ISBN numbers. Dr.T.V.S.Padmaja and Ms.Uma Rajmohan jointly published papers in ‘International Journal of Business Intelligence and Innovations on Language Learning & Cognitive Strategies’ and ‘International Research Journal of Humanities’. Dr.T.V.S.Padmaja, Ms. Uma Rajmohan, Ms. R.Subha Jasmine, Ms. Jeswill and Ms. S.Ramya presented papers bearing ISBN numbers in the national conferences conducted at Jeya college, KSR college of Arts & Science and Anna Adarsh College for Women.
 

DEPARTMENT OF HINDI

The department of Hindi conducted a one day workshop on the topic “Advertisement & Marketing “. Dr. Madhu Dhawan, Rtd. Head. Department of Hindi, Stella Mary’s College conducted a workshop. Dr. Manju Bala was honoured with the Best Poetess Award by the Punjab Association’s Anna Adarsh College.
 

DEPARTMENT OF BIO-CHEMISTRY

Ms.B.Thiripurasundari, Ms.R.Thamarai Selvi and Ms.R.Revathy Nayagam presented papers in the national conference organized by the Department of Biochemistry and Chemistry, Annai Violet College on 4th and 5th of February 2016.
 

DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE AND COMPUTER APPLICATIONS

Ms.R.Rajalakshmi, Ms. B.Gayathri, Ms. N.Sundaravalli, Ms, M.Sivapriya, Ms.R.Maheswari and Ms.S.Josephine Arul Jothi, presented papers held at Sri Akilandeswari Women College and Ms.Sivagamasundari presented a research paper at the national conference held SSS Jian College 14th October 2015.
 

DEPARTMENT OF HUMANITIES

The Department of Humanities organized a seminar on Career in Accounts and Finance on 15th February 2016 by FTMS Global academy a Dynamic Business structure. Mr.Prithvi Raj, CIMA Managing Head, South India addressed the final year students on the importance of Association of Chartered Certified Accountants Course and Chartered Institute of Management Accountants Course. Mr. Ramakrishnan, Assistant Vice President, ETEN IAS addressed final year UG students aspiring for Civil Services on 22nd February 2016.
 

DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE

Dr.V.Surekha published research papers bearing ISSN number in ‘Indo Global Journal of Commerce and Economics’ and ‘Tactful Management Research Journal’. Ms.G.Vanitha presented a paper in ‘DBJC Journal of Business Research and Innovations in Banking Sector’ organised by SSN Jain College for Women on 28th February 2015.
 

DEPARTMENT OF BANK MANAGEMENT

Ms.J.K.Kalpana Devi has been awarded Doctoral degree on 5th February 2016 at Manonmaniam Sundarnar University. Ms.M.D.Rekha got her M.Phil Degree this year.
 

DEPARTMENT OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

The Department organized a guest lecture on “Stress Management” on 12th August 2015 by Mr. Aravindhan, Professor, Vedanta Institute of Management. Mr K. Srinivasan, zonal Head, Coco – Cola, Chennai gave a guest lecture on “Strategic Management and Marketing” on 19th September 2015. Mr.Venkata Subramanian, Rtd, RBI officer gave a lecture on Budget 2016 and RBI regulations on 3rd March 2016.
 

EXTENSION SERVICE UNITS
NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS)

25 NSS volunteers participated in an International Yoga Programme conducted by the University of Madras. Along with the YRC unit , the volunteers created an awareness programme on the importance of wearing helmet on 30th of June 2016. Two volunteers participated in District Art Youth Exhibition Mela conducted by the University of Madras. Ten Volunteers attended a meeting at Corporation of Chennai Zonal Office, Shenoy Nagar to create awareness on the importance of exercising one’s vote. The Unit conducted an awareness programme on stress management through Pranic healing by Practitioners and trainers Ms. V.Rouprekha and Rtd.LT Col. G.Venkatatmana. The club in association with Sankara Nethralaya conducted an eye screening camp. 500 staff and students are the beneficiaries of the camp.
 

YOUTH RED CROSS (YRC)

Ten volunteers participated in an intercollegiate competition conducted by the Indian Red Cross society to commemorate the 66th anniversary of Geneva Conventions held from 5th to 10th August 2015 and won many prizes. The YRC co-ordinators attended the awareness programme conducted by Indian Red Cross Society on First Aid & Disaster Management programme on 11th August 2015. The club conducted an awareness programme on “Stress & Psychological Issues” on 28th September 2015. Dr.Subhashini Gopal addressed and shared the present day’s difficulties and encouraged the students on how to tackle the challenges, stress and pressure. Students participated in the First Aid & Disaster Management training classes conducted by Indian Red Cross society from 10th to 12th October 2015 The club also organized workshop on “The Quality of Interpersonal Relationships in Life” on 22nd January 2016 by Ms.Usha Ramakrishnan, Public Relations Manager, Bharat Matrimony addressed on interpersonal relationships in life between men and women. Dr.Rani Nanda Kumar, senior gynaecologist, Apollo Health Clinic conducted a seminar on cancer in women on 11th February 2016.
 

ROTARACT CLUB

The club’s activities started with the installation of the club for the academic year on 5th August 2015. Rtn. Vikash Chandra inaugurated the function and badged the young rotaractors. The club conducted a legal awareness programme on women rights on 1st October 2015. Mr.C. Jayaprakash, Advocate, High Court of Madras addressed the gathering regarding Dowry Act, Domestic Violence Act, Child Marriage Act and Sexual Harassment of Women at work place. The club organised an awareness programme on Dengue fever on 27th October 2015. Dr.Ragunathan, Dean, Madras Medical College, Dr. Raja, Zonal Health officer, Corporation of Chennai and Dr.N.S Nagarajan, Deputy Director of Public Health, Government of Tamil Nadu addressed the students. The club organized a cancer screening awareness programme on 21st January 2016. Dr.R. Balaji, Dr. Sivaprakash an Dr. Dhanasekar of Apollo Hospitals addressed the students on cancer, its types and various ways of screening to diagnose the cancer in earlier stage.
 

RED RIBBON CLUB

The members of the club extended their helping hand by visiting Guild of Service, Home for Destitute Children. They distributed note books and stationery items to all the inmates. Dr.M.Muthulakshmi, senior gynaecologist addressed the students on Polycystic Ovary Syndrome 3rd January 2016.
 

ECO CLUB

The Club conducted a programme “Green Campus Initiative “ on 4th Feb 2016. Mr. A. Subash, Managing Trustee, Better Environment for Long Life Foundation, gave a lecture on the importance of clean and green environment.

 

SPORTING SPIRIT

The 28th Annual Sports Day was celebrated on 6th February 2016. Dr.C.Sylendra Babu, Additional Director General of Police, Coastal Security Services, Chennai, graced the function as the Chief Guest. He enthralled the audience with his vibrant speech propagating “An Attitude with Gratitude”. He gave away the prizes to all the winners.
 

PLACEMENT REPORT

The Placement Cell has taken upon itself the arduous yet fulfilling task of assisting the students bettering the career prospects by providing them need based programmes that help them achieve their need.

• ‘Image Creations’ conducted a training programme on the 31st July 2015 for both UG and PG Life Science and Computer Science students.
• ‘India Trust’, an NGO addressed all the final year students on hassles in job seeking and techniques to overcome them on 17th August 2015.
• ‘The Bio Can Academy’ addressed all the life science students on the brighter prospective in the world of Life Sciences on 14th September 2015.
• ‘Techruit’ conducted an aptitude test and gave the students tips on how to crack competitive exams on the 20th January 2016.
• ‘Gee Tech Informatics’ conducted a survey on ‘Basic Knowledge on Computers’ for II year UG students on 20th January 2016.
• ‘AIMFIL International’ organised a seminar for the II year students to take up the profession of Air Hostess and make flying their part of life on 28th January 2016.
• ‘Conspire Solutions’ conducted recruitment drive on 10th December 2015.
• ‘Capgemini’ had its selection process for final year commerce students on 5th January 2016.
• ‘Sutherland Global Services’ conducted the placement drive on 11th January 2016.
• ‘TCS-BPS’ conducted a campus drive on 13th January 2016.
• ‘Professional InfoTech’ conducted recruitment drive on 20th January 2016 for life science students.
• ‘CSC’ conducted its Off-campus selection process on 27th January 2016.
• ‘Empower Young India Academy’ organized recruitment process for final year Commerce students on 28th January 2016.
• ‘TCS - Open Ignite’ organized an Off-campus drive for Computer Science, Computer Applications departments on 28th and 29th January 2016.
• ‘AUC Ventures Pvt. Ltd’ organized a campus drive on 1st February 2016.
• ‘Parikshan’ organized recruitment drive on 8th February 2016 for the final year life science students.
• ‘Domex India Pvt Ltd’ organized campus drive for life science final year students on 17th February 2016.
• ‘Scientific Publishing Services’ conducted recruitment drive on 23rd February 2016 for all the final year life science students.
• ‘e- Centric HR’ conducted a placement drive on 2nd March 2016.
As on date 375 students are placed and 170 students are shortlisted for final round of interview by various organisations.

Success begins in small steps. The steps taken by the management, staff and students towards academic excellence and empowerment for the past 28 years are commendable. I hope the activities of this institution of higher learning lay ascent on the development of human resources which will enable them to become socially responsible citizens in future. I extend my sincere gratitude to the management for their constant support and the kind cooperation extended by the staff and students in fulfilling the dreams of the visionary founder to march ahead in the pursuit of knowledge.
